Global Renewables Alliance: Introducing the renewables
Overview
COP27 in Egpyt saw the formation of the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA), a new coalition of renewable energy organisations working together towards a rapid, sustainable, affordable and inclusive energy transition.
This progressive alliance is calling for the acceleration of renewable energy deployment to deliver on the ambitions of the Paris Agreement and to underpin sustainable development and economic growth.
At this special session, the GRA will introduce itself to delegates at the World Hydropower Congress and launch ‘The Renewables’, a team of energy superheroes fighting for a clean energy transition.

Session objectives
- Introduce the partners of the GRA from the wind, solar, hydropower, green hydrogen, long duration energy storage and geothermal energy industries
- Emphasise the complementary roles that renewable energy technologies must play in delivering the clean energy transition
- Outline the barriers to renewable energy development, and how the GRA will collaborate to address them
- Set out the next steps for the alliance and the plan for collective action ahead of COP28
