Hydropower quest level 2: from FID to construction

Location/room:
Date:
Wednesday, April 7, 2027
Time:
16:15–17:05

Overview

This is the second in a highly interactive, two-part session.

Your hydropower project has secured early support. You have chosen wisely and your project is now on track to achieve FID, but new difficulties arise as you seek to balance allocation of risk leading up to, and through, construction. Now you enter late development and construction—where complexity, cost, and risk intensify. Your decisions now will define delivery success. Can the audience and our experts guide our project to successful development?

With the early-stage barriers addressed, this second session focuses on how to continue to support hydropower development post-FID.

Drawing on insights from policymakers, developers, financiers and civil society, the session will provide case studies and invite the audience to help prioritise the most impactful solutions to pre-construction and construction risk mitigation. Through live polling, audience input and expert reflections, the session will build a shared understanding of the most pressing considerations post-FID, and how these can be mitigated to serve the best projects through an interactive “Choose your own Adventure” approach.

In this interactive second session, audience participants will help guide and vote our project to achieve successful construction. Expert reflections will provide forward-looking recommendations to guide governments, industry and international partners in unlocking the full potential of hydropower as a pillar of secure, resilient energy systems.

Session objectives for part 2

  • Showcase importance of recent policy initiatives specifically designed to facilitate more efficient and successful hydropower late-stage development, especially in providing revenue certainty.
  • Detail high-level integration, and Allocation of risk strategies can influence project success.
  • Impart key development or site considerations and how to support them.
