Dr. Klaus Jorde is a civil engineer and independent consultant with over 30 years of experience in many aspects of hydropower development, including ecological aspects. He has worked in more than 30 countries worldwide. He was a professor at the University of Idaho, USA, from 2001 to 2007. He also taught “hydropower development” at the University of Stuttgart, Germany and the UNESCO Institute for Hydrologic Education in Delft, Netherlands.

Since 2008, he has been the manager of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy’s hydropower research program and represented Switzerland in the Executive Committee of the International Energy Agency’s Technology Collaboration Programme on Hydropower, a group of presently nine countries collaborating in various hydropower research areas. In 2021, he became the Executive Committee Secretary of IEA Hydro. He also operates his own small hydropower plant in southern Germany.
