The 2023 World Hydropower Congress, took place in Bali from 31 October to 2 November, and turned climate ambition into action.
Opened by Former President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, the event bought together more than 1,000 decision makers, innovators and experts from industry, governments, finance, civil society, and academia. The Congress was a catalyst for change with high-level policy statements, including the 2023 Bali Statement on Powering Sustainable Growth, recommendations and commitments that will influence the global growth of sustainable hydropower.

The 2021 World Hydropower Congress was a historic virtual summit that determined priorities for hydropower development. Taking place on 7-24 September, the Congress showcased how sustainable hydropower is part of the solution to climate change.
A significant outcome from the event was the San José Declaration on Sustainable Hydropower, an ambitious set of principles and recommendations to guide the future of sustainable hydropower development. This declaration has been brought a paramount shift to the industry.
