Overview

This session will inaugurate the launch of the new Hydropower Sustainability Alliance, a not-for-profit organisation working to advance sustainability in the hydropower sector through the adoption of the Hydropower Sustainability Standard.

The launch of the Hydropower Sustainability Alliance marks an important milestone in the development and operation of responsible hydropower projects around the world. This panel discussion brings together stakeholders from the hydropower industry, civil society, financial institutions and government to discuss the role of the Alliance in promoting sustainable hydropower practices and addressing the environmental and social impacts of hydropower projects.

The discussion will also cover the need for the Standard and its role in promoting transparency and accountability in the hydropower sector. Panellists will discuss strategies for promoting collaboration among industry players, local communities and environmental groups to ensure that hydropower projects are developed in a sustainable and responsible manner.

  • Formalise the launch of the Hydropower Sustainability Alliance through a symbolic document signing by stakeholders
