Future-proofing hydropower against climate change: the Climate Resilience Guide

Location/room:
Kintamani 7
Date:
Wednesday, November 1, 2023
Time:
17:00 – 18:00 WITA

Overview

The hydropower sector is vulnerable to the impacts of a changing climate. Changes in precipitation and temperature impact power generation, dam integrity, environmental and social aspects, as well as other infrastructure resilience.

What does climate resilient hydropower infrastructure mean in practice? And how can asset owners and developers demonstrate that their project is climate resilient?

To answer these questions, IHA and its partners developed the Hydropower Sector Climate Resilience Guide in 2019, a tool that provides all parties with a practical framework for assessing the climate resilience of hydropower projects.

Session objectives

·      Present the guide, including its novel methodology for identifying, assessing and managing climate risks to enhance the resilience of hydropower projects

·      Showcase concrete case studies of real-world application of the Guide

·      Bring together practitioners to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement
