As with any major development, hydropower has been faced with criticism and scrutiny for projects that have brought harm to local communities and the environment. As a result, hydropower developers are being held to higher accountability standards when it comes to measuring and reporting on their environmental and social impacts. With growing concerns around greenwashing, independent ESG standards must be used to promote transparency and trust in sustainability claims.
This session will bring together internationally recognised sustainability standards to discuss best practices and how those can be applied to the hydropower sector.
By the end of the session, attendees will have a better understanding of how rigorous sustainability standards can be used to ensure transparency and trust in sustainability claims, and how this can help to improve hydropower’s reputation.
