Abdul graduated with Cum Laude honours in civil engineering from ITB and furthered his studies at Tokyo University with a prestigious scholarship from the Japan Scholarship Programme. He began his career at Bappenas in the Directorate of Water and Irrigation and later moved to the Directorate of Defense and Security, where he honed his understanding of national security.

After seven years, he returned to the Directorate of Water and Irrigation, initially as Deputy Director for Rivers, Beaches, Reservoirs and Lakes for six years. He then served as Deputy Director for Institutional Water Resources for a year before becoming Director of Water and Irrigation from 2017 to 2022. In 2018, he also briefly assumed the role of Acting Director of Energy, Telecommunications and Information Technology. In 2023, Abdul took on the role of Regional Director 1, overseeing the Sumatra, Java and Bali regions, which collectively contribute more than 60% of Indonesia's GDP.

During his tenure at the Directorate of Water and Irrigation, he played a key role as a member of the hydropower development acceleration team from 2012 to 2014, working closely with the Vice President of Indonesia. Notable accomplishments included formulating policies and regulations for BMN asset utilisation in hydropower projects and actively promoting international best practices for hydropower sustainability in Indonesia. His leadership fostered collaboration between Bappenas, SECO and IHA, engaging numerous stakeholders in training and pilot project assessments related to sustainability protocols.
