Mr. José Franco Pinheiro Machado started working for Intertechne after graduating as a civil engineer at the Federal University of the State of Paraná and halfway through his Master’s degree in water resources engineering in 1992. José was the third youngest engineer hired by Intertechne, which was a 35 person company, founded just two years before. In 2001, José completed an MBA in energy management by the Fundação Getúlio Vargas. From 1989 until now, José saw Intertechne grow from the small company he started at into a global firm with more than 700 employees. As a young engineer, José became a member of the Board of executive directors and a partner at the company. Intertechne is the foremost consultancy in hydropower in Brazil and has been responsible for the design of more than 30,000 MW of projects. Today, Intertechne has activities in other areas, such as airports, roads, railroads, metro, mining, solar and wind energies and oil and gas. José is at the helm of the water and energy Unit, which is still responsible for the greatest share of the company’s income.
